Unite SIMA to join the Merthyr Rising Festival in a display of solidarity.

Friday 5th January 2018

Merthyr Rising is proud and honoured to announce that Unite SIMA has agreed to be one of the festival’s main sponsors for 2018 and beyond.
Over the last few years, Unite SIMA have played a part in the festival’s growth by actively supporting the festival to its members. With the 2017 festival being such a success it was felt that Unite SIMA wanted to ‘up the ante’ from 2018 onwards and have agreed to support the festival on a grander scale.

To this end, we are pleased to announce that Unite SIMA’s name will be above the door so to speak on the festival’s second stage that will be catering for a host of activities including live music, poetry, talks and debates and for the first time at the festival electronic dance music. Stage 2 will be situated in the main car park at the rear of Penderyn Square and will be undercover in a huge circus type tent or marquee.

This is the first year that a second stage will be constructed on the festival grounds, a spokesperson for the festival explains, “This year we are pleased to be able to offer a second stage that will be providing an eclectic selection of music and arts. The scope of the festival is increasing fairly dramatically and it was felt that this year was the year to actually implement plans that we have only considered in previous years. The town centre will be opened up to this year’s festival and we are utilising the extra space to maximum effect. We are delighted that Unite SIMA has seen the potential and have agreed to get behind it like they have. We would like to thank them for their valued support and look forward to working with them on this project both now and well into the future”

A spokesperson for Unite SIMA added, "Unite SIMA is proud to be supporting Merthyr Rising 2018. The rising of 1831, which we must never forget, was the struggle of workers against the establishment which, even though it's 177 years ago, is the same fights being fought today led by the Unions and Labour movement."

The Merthyr Rising Festival takes place on the May Bank Holiday weekend 25/26/27th May and includes live music from The Alarm, The Ruts, The Blockheads, Dreadzone, Beans on Toasts and many more. For tickets go to www.merthyrrising.uk
